“This is distinct from others in the industry who believe superintelligence should be directed centrally towards automating all valuable work, and then humanity will live on a dole of its output.”

Context
In a short letter signed "Mark", dated 30 July 2025, Zuckerberg set out Meta's vision of "personal superintelligence" for everyone, contrasting it with rivals. The same letter says "Personal devices like glasses that understand our context because they can see what we see, hear what we hear, and interact with us throughout the day will become our primary computing devices", which critics also singled out.

Critical commentary
Futurism called the announcement "hazy" and said it "smacked of the uninspired output of an AI chatbot"; former OpenAI safety researcher Steven Adler argued that anyone given superintelligence would automate others' work, and journalist Shakeel Hashim called the vision "entirely devoid of ambition and imagination" (both quoted by Futurism); New York Magazine's John Herrman wrote that it "comes across as borrowed and incoherent even by the low standards of CEO AI prognostication", and Futurism later said Zuckerberg "was broadly criticized" over it.
