“We're also building Hyperion, which will be able to scale up to 5GW over several years. We're building multiple more titan clusters as well. Just one of these covers a significant part of the footprint of Manhattan.”

Facebook and Threads post on Meta's multi-gigawatt AI data center clusters, 14 July 2025.
Context
Zuckerberg posted that Meta is building several multi-gigawatt clusters for its superintelligence effort, the first (Prometheus) online in 2026 and the second (Hyperion) scaling to 5 GW, and illustrated their size against a map of Manhattan. The Register reports the post on his Facebook account; TechCrunch reports it as a Threads post.
Crowd reaction
Critical commentary
Weak. The Register's standfirst mocks the announcement ('First, Zuck takes Manhattan. Then he might actually deliver a product that matters') and its closing paragraph says whether he can turn the money into profit is 'questionable', citing about $60 billion spent on Reality Labs since 2020. TechCrunch's report is neutral. No wider backlash to the remark itself was found.
