Context
Announcing the RTX 50 series, Huang said the $549 RTX 5070 would match the $1,599 RTX 4090 and that this was impossible without AI. PC Gamer noted the match was 'likely down to the new DLSS 4 magic' (Multi Frame Generation) rather than raw rendering. Critical commentary
Once the RTX 5070 was benchmarked, Tom's Guide (2025-03-06) reported results that 'state otherwise' than Huang's claim, and 80.lv (2025-03-05), citing TechSpot's tests, called Huang's promise of similar performance 'a bit cheeky' because the card relies on multi-frame generation, whose extra frames it calls 'ultimately fake' (the 4090 was 63% faster at 1440p). PC Gamer flagged on launch day that the match was 'likely only through new DLSS 4 AI smarts'.
